Education shouldn't depend on where a child is born
UEDS works with tea-estate and upcountry communities across the central highlands of Sri Lanka.

Vision
To create a future where every economically disadvantaged student in the upcountry region has equal access to quality education, empowering them to achieve their full potential and contribute to the development of their communities and nation. translate sinhala
Mission
To improve education for economically disadvantaged students in the upcountry region through scholarships, academic support, school resources, and sports development, while reducing the education gap and empowering youth for positive change.
What we do
Six ways we work alongside upcountry communities, from the classroom to the community hall.
Educational programmes
After-school support, teacher training and learning resources for estate-area schools.
Scholarships
Annual scholarships covering fees, materials and transport for students at risk of dropping out.
Student-support services
Counselling, meals and health referrals for students facing hardship at home.
Community development
Infrastructure and facilities — libraries, classrooms, water and sanitation — built with local communities.
Events
Prize-givings, career fairs and parent workshops held across our partner divisions.
Activities
Sport, arts and holiday programmes that keep students engaged outside term time.
The people behind the work
Every project starts with the tea-estate families and communities who shape it.
